'One Size Hurts All'

03-07-2020

Healthcare providers have an essential role in times of Covid-19. They care for Covid-19 patients and are therefore more likely to be infected by the virus than others. The surgical facemasks they use in the hospital have a universal size. The facemask will not suit everyone well, so that healthcare providers are not sufficiently protected as they deserve to be.

Kaz Bison, third-year student of Communication and Multimedia Design at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), commissioned the research group Digital Life - also part of the AUAS - to use his knowledge and expertise in the field of both Visual Design and User Experience / Interaction Design to adapt the universal face masks to a personal fit.

By developing face mask straps, he has contributed to better protection against the Covid-19 virus. In addition, the masks are much more comfortable to wear. The actual application in practice will still take a while - firstly, a few additional improvements are required.

Eventually, we are happy that 'one size hurts all' will become a thing of the past!
