Margriet Pol presents at AAATE Congress - Global Challenges in Assistive Technology
09-09-2019
At the 15th edition of the AAATE international conference in Bologna, Italy, Margriet Pol - researcher at Digital Life - was one of the invited speakers. The meeting, which took place from August 27 to 30, 2019, attracted more than 400 researchers and practical professionals from science, business services and industry. Topic of discussion: the most recent innovations and visions of the future when it comes to supporting technology.
The track which Margriet Pol took care of was 'Assistive Technology - Digital Health and Innovation in Care'. She told the audience about the results of the SO-HIP study: the use of sensor technology in the rehabilitation of the elderly after a hip fracture.
A hip fracture is common for elderly. Many elderly people suffer from fear of falling, which prevents older people from exercising and performing their physical daily activities, while this is important for a good recovery. Within the SO-HIP study, an occupational therapeutic coaching intervention has been developed based on cognitive behavioral therapy. This is supported by sensor monitoring, to increase the self-effectiveness of the elderly and thereby support their daily functioning in geriatric rehabilitation.
The entire Congress in Bologna provided a good overview of topics at the intersection of technology and disability; exactly the research area of our Digital Life Centre.
In addition to the contributions from keynotes and other speakers, an interesting Innovation Area was set up during the conference to become acquainted with the latest developments in the field of products and prototypes related to supporting technology in the event of outages.
