Lecturer Somaya Ben Allouch elected Dutch Academy of Engineering fellow

The new Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected Somaya Ben Allouch as a fellow, after Regieorgaan SIA nominated her for this position. Somaya Ben Allouch is a lecturer in Digital Life at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and also affiliated to the University of Amsterdam. She will be officially appointed on 13 November during the festive inauguration in The Hague.

Ben Allouch: 'I look forward to sharing my expertise on successful development and integration of digital systems in everyday life from human needs but using technical capabilities, especially in the field of health and care.' The NAE brings together top experts active in technical science and applied research and development.

With the appointment of the 62 fellows, NAE is now effectively getting underway. Fellows are committed to making social impact through NAE. NAE fellows come from knowledge institutions and industry, and are elected annually. The NAE selects their fellows on their prestigious track record in impactful, engineering-based innovation, their motivation and ability to make a difference. In addition, their objective, cross-sectoral and integrity counts.

Interim chairman of Regieorgaan SIA, Huib de Jong, on Somaya Ben Allouch: 'Our main motivation for nominating Ben Allouch is her leading expertise at the interface of people, computing and health. Her research focuses on how digital systems affect everyday life, especially in terms of health and well-being. In addition, we see her rich network in the research community, health organisations and companies as highly valuable for her role as an NAE fellow.'

In addition to Ben Allouch, Abeje Yenehun Mersha was also elected fellow. He is a lecturer in Unmanned Robotic Systems at Saxion. Together they represent hbo within the NAE fellows.
