How Karel and Annabel support healthcare!

15-04-2021

Somaya Ben Allouch, lecturer in the Digital Life research group of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, was finally allowed to visit colleagues of the ZorgAccent care institution again on Monday April 12,.2021. In view of the research project 'Robotics in Healthcare', it was necessary to carry out an evaluation on location.

Both Jeanine Wesselink-Huesken (GRZ carer) and Eefje van Keeken (dementia coach) from ZorgAccent were present.

At this care institution, the social robots 'Karel' and 'Annabel' are used to help the elderly in their daily activities. Both robots are also used to support employees and family members in putting on and taking off the Personal Protective Equipment that people have to wear when they want to visit COVID patients.

Everyone is very enthusiastic that the robot is of added value to relieve healthcare professionals. Healthcare workers can now use their time to help clients at the bedside.

Fortunately, there are fewer and fewer COVID patients at ZorgAccent, which means that the robots can be used for residents in other departments. And our hope is that it will remain so in the coming period!

This video gives a good impression of how Karel and Annabel support the entire care sector!
