Digital Life collaborates with Spanish 'researcher-in-residence' throughout January

19-01-2023

The Digital Life research group is collaborating with several European partners in the EU project SO-NUTS. This research project focuses on preventing unhealthy weight gain and obesity during the transition from work to retirement.

Lifestyle modification

Although all older people at that stage of life are at risk of gaining weight and losing muscle mass, there is an even greater risk of obesity and sarcopenia due to hormonal changes, status, poor dietary intake and lower levels of physical activity. Yet retirement offers a great opportunity and possibility for lifestyle improvements, as older adults already need to restructure their daily activities.

Researcher-in-residence

During the month of January, researcher Paula Collazo Castiñeira from the Pontifical University Comillas and Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal (IRYCIS), Spain, is visiting Digital Life to work with AUAS researchers on this SO-NUTS project. The goal is to promote international collaboration on digital technologies for health and wellbeing.

Psychological expertise

The collaboration involves designing the MiB platfom together from different areas of expertise. The researchers from Digital Life do this from digital technologies, Paula Collazo Castiñeira especially from a psychological, health perspective.

Final date of the research project is not until the end of December 2025, but Paula's fulltime contribution this January will surely give the research an extra injection of knowledge in the interim!
