Digital Life on tour: European SO-NUTS consortium meets in Madrid!

07-06-2022

Retire healthy. That is the aim of the international SO-NUTS project, for which the research group Nutrition and Exercise (Faculty of Sports and Nutrition) of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences is responsible. As soon as people retire, there is generally a lot of change in their exercise and diet. This often leads to an increased risk of being overweight and/or losing muscle mass (sarcopenia).

At the beginning of June this year, a delegation of AUAS researchers traveled to Madrid to discuss how we can support retirees in a European context to maintain their vitality. Interim results of the SO-NUTS consortium show which older people are most at risk. And which interventions prove to be successful.

Somaya Ben Allouch, Michel Oey and Sumit Mehra, involved in this research from the Digital Life research group, presented a digital platform in Madrid that is being developed specifically for retirees to help them stay healthy. This includes input from the retired AUAS employee network AUAS United.

It is ultimately up to the retirees themselves to what extent they want to -and can- grow old healthy, but some (digital) support can make all the difference!
