AI & Engineering
25-02-2025

In the Higher Technical and Science Education Sectoral Advisory Board (HTNO) of the Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, higher education is working with industry associations and companies on engineering talent of the future.
Twice a year, they organise a widely accessible HTNO afternoon on which current themes are elaborated, with the aim of increasing enrolment in education, strengthening the connection to the professional field and contributing to the major societal challenges we face (think of energy, circularity and labour market shortages).
AI & Engineering
The theme of the HTNO inspiration afternoon in February was AI & Engineering. More than 100 leaders, decision-makers and teachers from colleges gathered. From the AUAS Digital Life research group (Faculty DMCI), lecturer Somaya Ben Allouch attended.
What was discussed?
- AI is going to influence our lives more, how do we make sure we are vigilant about how we use it? What do we want to do ourselves?
- The importance of a basic understanding of technology is crucial to forming a responsible opinion
- That it is essential to work with students. They may quickly know what tools are there, but without experience, assessing the output is very complicated
In general, it is important to make conscious choices: what do you want to keep doing yourself and what do you want to outsource to AI?
